The Hook Up In Palisades Park
Park Information
Haverstraw Beach State Park is a component of the larger Rockland Lake State Park complex. The park is just north of the Rockland Lake golf course, on the east side of Route 9W. The Hook Mountain/Nyack Beach Bikeway runs through the park.
In 1780, American General Benedict Arnold and the British spy John André exchanged the plans to overtake West Point at Haverstraw Beach at this site. A stone marker identifies the place where Andre landed. This site, the location of an early town named Snedeker's Landing, is also known as the oldest shipyard in Rockland County.
This hike is in the Palisades Interstate Park Region of Southern New York. Starting from the trailhead right next to the Rockland Lake Fire Department, this is a 50-50 hike. Half the hike is tight pack gravel path along the Hudson River on the Nyack River Trail and a few streets. 80% of this half has great views of the river or the cliffs. Hello to everyone from the Palisade Park Hook & Ladder Company! We have set up a new digital welcome screen in our fire department, which will act as a bulletin for information, and a slide show of photos of historical, current, and future events and happenings.
